North East Guinea Pig Rescue

Looking For Homes

If you are interested in adopting any of the guinea pigs on this page please kindly follow this procedure:

1. Carefully read the adoption policy

2. If you are happy with the conditions of adoption and can meet these conditions please contact me (Layla) via email answering the questions on the contact page. I will try to respond within 48 hours, but it may take longer if I am dealing with an emergency).

 3. You will be asked to email a photo of your guinea pigs’ home before adoption (if possible) and a home visit will be arranged.

Please note that I ask for a minimum donation of £15 for a single guinea pig or £30 for a bonded pair.

Guinea pigs live for up to 7 years so a lot of thought needs to be given before rehoming a guinea pig.

I advise against the use of wood shavings due to the health risks they pose. Therefore, I prefer the guinea pigs to be adopted to homes that do not use wood shavings. There are many alternatives that offer better absorbency and do not pose health risks to guinea pigs. If there is a reason why you cannot use an alternative to wood shavings please let me know.

Guinea pigs will not be rehomed as the sole responsibility of a child (under 18 years old). I do rehome guinea pigs to be part of families but there must be an adult interest.

All guinea pigs have been preventatively treated for parasites.

Thank you for considering adopting a rescued guinea pig.

Henry

Sponsor piggy: Henry is looking for friends to support his care

Sex: Male

Age: Henry is 6 months old

Health/Behavioural issues: Bladder stone removed February 2012

Intake reason: Henry was neglected awfully in his previous home. He has just had a bladder stone removed and is in recovery. He is therefore not available for adoption at the moment.

Arrival date: November 2012

Would you like to be Henry’s friend?

Henry is 6 months old and has been in rescue since he was 8 weeks old. He came from a terrible home where he and his siblings were neglected. Unfortunately, Henry isn’t having much luck – he had a bladder stone removed last week. He is recovering very well and back to his lively wheeking self. However, he will remain in rescue for the foreseeable future as there is a high chance he will suffer further bladder stones. I have him on a special diet and I am monitoring him closely. Henry is looking for some special friends to sponsor him to help fund his care and any future veterinary treatment for bladder stones (last treatment cost just under £200). Could you afford £2 a month to help Henry? As a friend of Henry you would receive updates from Henry on his progress, a friend of Henry certificate, and a photo of Henry to put on you mantelpiece! If you would like to help please get in touch with Henry via the rescue’s email address (negprescue@gmail.com).

Kashy and Blaze – we’ve been waiting for a home for a while now

Adoption status: Available for adoption

Sex: Males (Blaze is neutered)

Age: Kashy 3 years old; Blaze 16 weeks old

Health/Behavioural issues: None

Intake reason: Neglect; Accidental litter due to owner missexing guinea pigs.

Arrival date: January 2013

Kashy is an entire 3 yr old male. He was rescued from someone who wasn’t looking after him properly (alone outside, dirty hutch, frozen water bottle). The rescuer intended to keep Kashy and to give him a good life but sadly one of his children had a severe allergy to Kashy. Kashy is a friendly boy who has settled well with Blaze. Kashy is very laid back and likes to curl up like a cat in the heay. Blaze: wow what a stunning surprise he was. 16 weeks old and is in rescue due to owners missexing their piggies. He is shy of humans but can be a dominant boar – hormones running high I think. He and Kashy have settled well together and need to be rehomed as a pair. A really lovely pair of boys who get on well together.

Chris and Katie

Adoption status: Available for adoption

Sex: Females

Age:1 year old

Health/Behavioural issues: None – but they do have long hair so need an owner prepared to look after their gorgeous locks.

Intake reason: Unwanted

Arrival date: April 2013

These girls were bought from PAH. Their original owner separated from her partner and gave the girls to her sister. This was only supposed to be a temporary arrangement and the sister could not keep them permanently  so they came into rescue. Chris came in with severely matted hair. She didn’t like being handled, but I am sure the matt was causing her discomfort. The girls are still shy but they are very gentle in nature and getting braver.

Buttercup and Daisy

Adoption status: Available for adoption

PHOTO TO COME

Sex: Females

Age:1 year old

Health/Behavioural issues: None

Intake reason: Unwanted

Arrival date: April 2013

These girls were bought from a breeder. Their original owner struggled to look after them and gave them to her sister, who already had piggies.  However, the girls did not get on with her piggies so she could not keep the. Buttercup can be bossy but is settling in to her foster home and getting along better with Daisy. Both of them were very nervous of handling when they arrived, but they are getting better. Buttercup is gorgeous  she has satin in her so her hair is very silky and glows golden in the sunlight. Both girls have short-hair.
